Uber nightmares: Driver attacked and coughed on by passenger [video]
Dashcam footage has revealed how the passenger coughed on a San Francisco Uber driver amidst the coronavirus pandemic in what can only be described as an Uber nightmare.
Uber driver’s worst nightmare
When Subhakar Khadka asked his Uber passengers to comply with COVID-19 safety measures by putting on their masks, his passengers responded by saying “F***k the masks!” Then they coughed on him, seized his mask and pepper-sprayed him.
Khadka is from Nepal and has been in the United States for eight years, working hard to support his family. According to Vice, he picked up the three riders in San Francisco at about 12:45 on 7 March.
Dashcam footage later shows them yelling racial slurs at Khadka, ripping his mask off and trying to take his phone. During the assault, the video shows one passenger saying: “And I got corona.”
After finally leaving his car, one of the riders sprayed a lot of pepper spray into Khadka’s passenger window as the group walked away.
Driver believes attack was racially motivated
The Asian-American driver believes his race was the reason for the attack.
“If I was another complexion, I would have not gotten that treatment from them,” Khadka told Vice. “The moment I opened my mouth to speak, they realised I’m among one of them, so it’s easy for them to intimidate me. Since you were born and raised here in the United States, don’t think the other person is less human.”
According to Inside Edition, the main offending passenger, who was identified later, said all she did was take his mask off and “coughed a little bit”. She was banned from using the Uber app ever again.

WHEN AN UBER DRIVER EATS YOUR FOOD
The incident comes after a law student in the UK ran into a bit of trouble when an Uber Eats driver decided to eat her food and not deliver it.
While most Uber Eats drivers usually try to keep their ratings high to retain the required standard, this driver clearly was not bothered. Wion News reports that the delivery agent not just ate the order of a London-based student, but mockingly messaged her about it.
Illy Ilyas, 21, ordered two burgers, chips and a chicken wrap on Uber Eats on 6 February. She was continually receiving notifications about the status of her delivery, but the last message left Ilyas stunned.
“Sorry love, ate your food,” he texted Ilyas.
Uber driver charged with kidnapping
Nightmare Uber journeys are nothing new. In 2020, John Murray and his wife, Tameka Swann, were left terrified when an Uber driver in Virginia in the US attempted to chase down someone who had hit his car — without letting his passengers out.
According to CNN, the driver was eventually charged with two counts of abduction, reckless driving, and felony hit-and-run.
Murray said the driver, whom he identified as Olomola, picked them up outside their home. A few blocks later they were rear-ended by another driver.
“I thought we were just going to pull over and they would exchange information, but the other driver pulled around us and took off. I had no idea he was about to go fast and furious on us.”
Murray live-streamed the initial accident on Facebook.
