Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have had a strong working relationship with Sony Pictures going back nearly 13 years and now they’re looking to continue it as they are developing an animated adaptation of the 2018 podcast Bubbles, according to Variety.
The film, which is being penned by podcast creator Jordan Morris, will tell the story of an unlikely group of friends who came together thanks to an Uber-like app for hunting monsters called Huntr.
The last time Goldberg and Rogen partnered for an animated project, it was for Sony Pictures’ 2016 Sausage Party, which scored rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and was a box office smash grossing nearly $140.7 million on a $19 million budget. After its success, the duo revealed they wanted to work on more animated films, including offering ideas for a potential sequel to Sausage Party.
The duo are set to produce the project through their banner Point Grey alongside Jumanji: The Next Level‘s Matt Tomalch through his banner. Kyle Hunter, Ariel Shaffir, James Weaver and David Manpearl are attached as executive producers, while Maximum Fun and Jordan Morris are attached as co-executive producers.
Tolmach is considered one of the most notable producers at Sony, helping to deliver hit franchises including the Jumanji series, and is currently attached to produce the upcoming Venom sequel as well as the Jared Leto-starring Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius. Tolmach also worked with Rogen, Goldberg, Hunter and Shaffir on Hulu’s Future Man.
Goldberg and Rogen have worked with Sony for over 13 years now, making their debut with the studio in 2007 with Superbad, which scored rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and is considered a modern comedy classic. They went on to work with studio 2008’s Pineapple Express, 2011’s The Green Hornet, 2013’s This Is the End, 2014’s The Interview and Sausage Party.
