Two years after Studio 8 acquired the rights to Rob Liefeld’s Image Comics character Prophet, the studio has found the man to pen the film adaptation in the form of Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow co-developer Marc Guggenheim, according to Deadline.

The studio’s hopes is to build a franchise around the titular character who is a DNA-enhanced super soldier placed into a cryogenic freeze for a future mission only to awaken prematurely in the present and searching for a mission that does not a exist, therefore seeking to find his humanity.

The film is set to be produced by Adrian Askarieh (Hitman: Agent 47), Brooklyn Weaver (Run All Night) and Deadpool creator Liefeld, with John Hyde and Terissa Kelton also attached in some producing capacities.

The character of Prophet first debuted in the second issue of Liefeld’s Youngblood in 1992 and grew into his own series a year later and was inspired by another Liefeld creation, Cable, who recently made his big-screen debut in Deadpool 2 portrayed by Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame) and is expected to reprise his role in a future Deadpool sequel, as well as a potential X-Force film written and directed by Drew Goddard (Bad Times at the El Royale), though the latter project is currently on hold amidst Marvel Studios working to incorporate its newly-acquired characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the Disney-Fox merger.
