Jeff Fowler & Tim Miller’s The Goon movie update & storyboard reveal

It’s been over a year since we last heard any kind of update on the long-awaited film adaptation of the Eric Powell-created Dark Horse comic The Goon from Tim Miller (Deadpool) and Jeff Fowler (Sonic the Hedgehog). Now Blur Studios has offered fans an update on the Kickstarter-funded project, as well as a look at new storyboards which can be viewed below!

In their announcement, Miller’s Blur Studios expressed how “truly sorry” they are for how long it’s taken to get the project of the ground, but that the visual effects and animation house has not “even THOUGHT about GIVING UP” on the film and plan on continuing to develop it until they get the film made.

“Eric is, at this very moment, working on script revisions and things are still moving forward,” Blur wrote in the update. “It’s true… we’ve had a few setbacks – like Disney buying Fox and of course there’s no fucking way Disney would make a GOON film – but we have and will continue to keep pushing past this shit until it’s done. Adult animation gets hotter every day and we’re very actively stoking that fire with our shows like LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS. And it’s working – believe me, the difference between the excitement we hear pitching Goon now and the fear we heard when we began development (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) is huge. Fewer doors are closed and more minds are open.”

In looking at the increased interest in adult animation and pitching the film to studios, the update asks that fans “keep the faith” and that the adaptation “will happen,” while offering a trio of early and “rough” storyboards from the comic creator and illustrator himself, Powell, teasing the return of some key characters from the cult classic two-decades-old series.

Created by Eric Powell, The Goon follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists, skunk apes, and more. The original test scene done for the film included Clancy Brown voicing the titular character and Paul Giamatti as his friend and associate Franky.
